This is a post in an ongoing feature on Her Packing List called “The One Little Thing.” Each week or two, we’ll be interviewing a traveling lady to find out the one little thing she can’t travel without. This one comes to you from Victoria.
Hey, I’m Vic. I’ve travelled the world, lived in five countries (so far) and just over a year ago I quit my corporate role in communications to travel more and write a blog about it. My girlfriend and I founded The Freedom Travellers at the beginning of 2014 and now spend our time travelling the world, meeting awesome new people and inspiring others to jump out of their comfort zone and embrace the unknown! We believe that life is about more than sitting behind a desk for 40 hours a week for 40 years, it’s about freedom and choice.
What one little thing can you not travel without?
My Bose noise cancelling headphones. When I purchased these they literally changed travelling forever…in a good way! You may think expensive headphones are simply a ‘nice to have’ but for me they are an essential item when travelling anywhere. Long haul flights, short haul flights, long car rides, chilling at the beach listening to your fave tunes…these babies go everywhere with me!

Why has this one item been so important to you?
Believe it or not, they make flights so much more enjoyable for a number of reasons. Firstly, the sound quality when watching movies on the plane is amazing in comparison to the cheap and cheerful headset you are given by the airlines. Pop them on and you have movie theatre quality sound in your ears.
That’s awesome, sure, but the absolute best thing about these is the reason I bought them. They cancel out all other noise. Even when you have nothing playing they are the perfect way to create quiet in a noisy airplane. Screaming baby? Guy snoring his head off next to you? No problem! Just pop them on and you can’t hear a thing!
How packable is it? Does it take up much room? Is it heavy?
The case they are contained in is pretty small, about 21cm by 15cm. I chuck mine in my carry on and I’m good to go.
Why would you recommend this to your travel friends?
If you travel a lot like we do then items like this really do make a big difference to your experience, when flying especially! Long bus rides or car journeys are also much more enjoyable with a set of these.
Can you name one incident or situation where you were so happy to have this item with you?
On a recent flight to Singapore we were flying Business Class and were given some fancier earphones than usual. Even though they looked better quality than the usual ones you get given they were SO uncomfortable and really pinched my ears. Thankfully I had my trusty Bose headphones with me so I was able to chill out and watch movies in comfort…and quiet!
How did you hear about this item?
My girlfriend Elaina got me on to them…she’s a big fan too!
What sort of traveler is this item perfect for?
If you’re a frequent flyer who takes long haul flights often these are definitely for you. Trust me when I say one long flight with these will change your flying experience forever!
