Traveling with Jewelry Tips

traveling with jewelry tips

When it comes to staying stylish while traveling, jewelry is one item that can transform your look from sloppy to chic without taking up much space in your bag. While I would almost never recommend traveling with expensive pieces like gold or diamonds, as it can make you more susceptible to crime, cute earrings can be easy to throw in.

What jewelry should I pack?

Like I said before, don’t pack anything that you would be upset to lose or have stolen or broken. Cheap pieces work best for this reason. I recommend packing at least one statement necklace (see our professional packing list for more help), like you might find at Forever 21 or a similar store, with bright colors. It will dress up a basic tank or dress. I would also pack one simple necklace that is more demure and won’t take away from an outfit. A simple charm necklace will do. As far as earrings go, one simple pair of studs and one more over-the-top pair should do. And silver hoops go with just about everything.

For inspiration on jewelry that shows your love for travel, see our Travel Jewelry Pinterest board! My favorite jewelry pieces are ones I’ve picked up while traveling. My jade elephant necklace from Thailand and turquoise earrings that I bought in Berlin’s Turkish markets always make it into my backpack!

How should I pack jewelry?

If you travel with jewelry, it’s a good idea to invest in some sort of case to keep it organized. The best jewelry organizers make space for all sorts of jewelry, including rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings. There are styles for every price range as well. The jewelry roll is one of the more popular styles, as it folds down smaller than other types. Baggalini’s jewelry pouch is another cheap and easy-to-use jewelry case.

Traveling with Jewelry Tips

We’ve found a few tips and tricks that keep your jewelry from getting broken and tangled. For necklaces, loop the chain through a bendy straw to keep it from getting knotted and tangled. To keep stud earrings together, put the backs onto a simple button. If you don’t want to splurge on a jewelry organizer, use a pill case or baseball card organizer.

    Great post, Caroline!

I always travel with jewellery and seem to either never wear it or break it.

After that I bought some of those small silk zip pouches in Hong Kong (can also find them in most China towns) and store each piece separately. The zip keeps them secure and the extra press stud is an extra layer of protection. I then put it in a padded make-up bag I got for free when buying new make-up – perfect fit and with room to store anything new I buy on the road as well. ;)

I always travel with jewellery, but enver with lots of it. I usually take one watch, two pairs of earrings (one basic and one more fancy) and one or two bracelets with me. Mostly all silver, which goes with everything.
it’s through that a statement necklace can really make an outfit, but I know I wouldn’t wear it as much as a basic silver one, so it’s not coming with me.
In fact, necklaces are the piece of jewellery I often don’t take with me because I don’t like wearing them when it’s really hot. They get covered up in sunscreen and all.

I normally travel with jewelry and I have different ways to pack it. I have put rings in socks and in cotton balls inside ziploc bags. I like to put earrings in cupcake liners then wrap them with foil. It’s not pretty but they don’t break and it doesn’t take hardly any room in my carry-on. My necklaces are all costume jewelry and they can also be put in cotton or in cupcake liners. That works really well for me. I appreciate this post, thanks!
