As I try to pack lighter more and more, I have to consider electronics. They can weigh down your bag easily and put you at risk for theft. One way to keep your electronics packing list smaller is to use items for multiple purposes. The latest trend in photography is “iPhoneography,” which allows you to take great pictures on your smartphone without lugging around all that extra gear. A few iPhone add ons can enhance them even further.
So when I had the chance to check out iPhone lenses from Photojojo, I jumped at the chance to take my travel photos to the next level. I got the Macro, Wide Angle and Telephoto lenses, pictured left to right, which only cost $20 each. There’s also a Fisheye option if you like your photos to be more artsy. The wide angle and telephoto lenses come as one, which screw together, meaning you get two for the price of one.
They’re very easy to use, as all you have to do is take one of the magnetic ring stickers and apply it around the lens sensor of your camera (see #1 below). From there, just snap your lens of choice on and you’re ready to shoot. The lenses fit most devices, including Android, iPod Touch, iPad, Blackberry, MacBook and, of course, the iPhone. Some devices don’t need the magnetic rings, but they come with just in case.
What We Like
Unlike lenses for your fancy DSLR, the Photojojo lenses are cheap as chips. The quality may not be as high, but they’re pretty close considering the price and size. They’re small in size and come with covers to keep them from getting scratched. You can pop them on your keychain for while you’re snapping on the go. The lenses are easy to use and offer different types for whatever your needs may be.

What We’d Change
Once you initially apply the magnetic ring, you should leave it on for a while before using. I found that due to heat and other circumstances, the ring came off when I pulled the lens off, but I was able to reapply. You also may have to remove your cover for the lenses to work, which could cause problems for protection. There were a few photos where you could see the lens in the corners of the photo.
All in all, if you’re looking for a way to improve your iPhoneography and to carry less gear, the Photojojo lenses are a great option. They’re easy to use and take up little room. And for a great price point, all four lenses are yours for only $50 USD, or you can buy them separately for about $20.
