When it comes to packing essentials for electronics, extra batteries and power packs have become as important as the chargers themselves. They help give you a boost in between charges, especially when you’re away from civilization or just draining your battery from all the Instagram photos you’re posting.
These extra battery banks come in many forms, including charging cases, small keychain-sized chargers and even extra batteries that can charge your battery and even larger devices. If you travel with as many items as I do while trying to maintain my travel blog (including an iPhone, Kindle, laptop, GoPro and camera), these items are like gold!
I have at least four extra batteries that I’ve acquired over the years from swag bags and purchasing on my own. Each has their own benefits, like small size and cords that can be used multiple ways, but you get what you pay for. I’ve had a few that I’ve immediately gotten rid of because they didn’t hold a charge at all. Is it so much to ask for that a battery pack lasts?
Enter Power Practical’s Pronto 5
Power Practical makes products to charge electronics for people on the go, including a camping pot that charges via USB as well as battery packs. They’ve even appeared on Shark Tank for their unique products.
The Pronto 5 is a mid-range charger in both size and power, and it also:

- Charges most phones 2-3 times (I’ve even used it to charge my Kindle!).
- Charges 12 times faster than other battery packs because of the 60W power input as opposed to a standard 5W input.

Pros
Made of rugged aluminum, the Pronto 5 is durable and can take a beating. You don’t have to worry about it being destroyed after being dropped. It has long lasting charges making it ideal for music festivals, cruises, conferences and other situations when you don’t always have access to an outlet. For some shorter trips, you may not even need to bring your wall chargers and adapters!
Cons
The Pronto is by far the largest extra battery I’ve seen on the market. My other ones are smaller than my phone, some even smaller than a tube of mascara; the Pronto is the size of your hand. It doesn’t take up that much more space, but you might think about it if you’re low on space. It doesn’t include a cord to attach to your smartphone, but that’s not a big deal.
The big kicker, however, is the $79.99 price tag. In this situation, you get what you pay for.
