Travel, Sex & Train Wrecks book

“The world is my playground. There is no box for me.”

This simple phrase, taken from the end of Travel, Sex and Train Wrecks perfectly sums up the book and what I took away from reading Julie Morey’s autobiography. Julie did what a lot of travelers have done before her – disappeared into the backpacker Heaven that is South East Asia to escape her not-so perfect life.

And what a playground it was for her.

She flirted and maybe did a little something more with men with sexy accents from all over the globe. I feel like there should have been a map included in the e-book with pins placed on the countries of the men (and perhaps women) she kissed.

She survived the harsh heat of India, fell in love with Pai in Thailand, got “happy” in Cambodia and naked in Halong Bay, and had the “absolute best time of her life.”

But most importantly, she found what she longed for – peace within herself.

Julie, a devout Christian, felt like a contradiction after her marriage crumbled and led to divorce. In this book, you follow along with her as she forgives herself and finds inner happiness.

She writes in an informal way so readers have the sense that they are a part of the realization process. It was definitely interesting reading all of her feelings regarding the divorce, and you feel like cheering at the end when she lets it all go and the sun shines again.

I would recommend this book to all women travelers, for a laugh, for some insight and for the “oh-my-god-I’ve-totally-done-that” moments.

You can hear Julie reading a portion of her book below.

Way to go Julie!! I’m always so excited to hear about other people wanting to find out what they really want out of life and who they really are!! Bravo for having the immense courage it takes to step outside of our preconceived beliefs of how to be apart of the world and digging in to make your own life “blue print”! I would love to read this book!
