Created in 1948 by German immigrant Emmanuel Bronner, his pure-Castille soap is vegetable-based and made from ingredients like coconut, hemp, palm kernel, and jojoba oils. It’s also fair trade, certified organic, certified vegan, non-GMO, and kosher, too!

Using Dr. Bronner’s Soap for Personal Hygiene
[1 + 2] Body wash and face wash: Of course, the primary use of this product is for cleaning. You can use the product as is to wash your body. The soap is quite potent, so using a small amount is recommended to wash your entire body. It’s also mild enough to use on your face as well.
[3] Shampoo: You can use a small amount and apply directly to wet hair or mix a tablespoon of Castille soap with a cup of water.
[4] Natural deodorant: Mix ½ teaspoon of Dr. Bronner’s soap with 1 teaspoon of salt in a spray bottle.
[5] Hand soap: Reuse soap dispensers that have run out of liquid hand soap by mixing 12 ounces of water with 2 tablespoons of Dr. Bronner’s soap. Just tip the bottle slightly to mix the liquids and voila!
[6 + 7] Shaving cream and aftershave: To do this, work up a lather with a small amount of soap in your hands and apply it to the area you want to shave. After shaving, slather on a few drops of Dr. Bronner’s as an aftershave.
[8] Bath soak: Just add two tablespoons of the soap along with a tablespoon of the carrier oil of your preference to a bath, and you’re all set for a relaxing soak.
[9 + 10] Toothpaste and mouthwash: If the thought doesn’t give you the heebie-jeebies, you can totally use the soap in place of a toothpaste and mouthwash. Put a drop of soap into your toothbrush or a shot glass of water and rinse away. (Yes, it will taste a bit soapy, but you’ll be clean!)
[11] Denture rinse: For denture users, a couple of drops of Dr. Bronner’s in your denture case works as a denture rinse.
Using Dr. Bronner’s Soap at Home
[12] Cleaning spray: Dr. Bronner’s is an all-around household cleaner. Just mix 1 to 2 cups of soap into a quart of water in a spritzer and use this as a cleaning spray.
[13] Soap scrub cleaner: For tougher stains, you can make a soap scrub cleaner by mixing 1 cup of the soap and 3 cups of water in a spray bottle. Sprinkle some baking soda unto the area you want to clean, spray the solution, and start scrubbing away.
[14] Laundry detergent: Just ½ cup of the Castille soap is needed to do a load of laundry. If you are hand-washing while traveling, you can just use a couple of drops to mix with water.
[15] Liquid dish soap: Mix 1 part of Dr. Bronner’s soap to 10 parts water. This is very convenient if you’re using reusable water bottles, straws, and cutleries when traveling!
[16] Makeup brush cleaner: To do this, mix a few drops of Dr. Bronner’s soap in a cup of warm water. Rinse your brushes in plain water first, then soak them in the cup with the solution for 10 minutes. Rinse the brushes in plain water again, then air dry.
Using Dr. Bronner’s Soap for First Aid and Relief
[17] Wound cleaning solution: Make a cleaning solution by combining 2 teaspoons of Castille soap with 2 cups of filtered drinking water. This can be used for cleaning wounds if you do not have a saline solution available.
[18] Sinus decongestion: Are you feeling stuffy? In a bowl of boiling hot water, add 1 tablespoon of salt and a squirt of peppermint or eucalyptus soap. Drape a towel over your head, bring your face over the water and breathe in the steam.

I had to use this as shampoo/body wash for an entire summer (tried every scent available). My hair was stick dry like I’ve never experienced – I still woke up with an oil slick as usual, but the oil wasn’t getting into my hair. Also, I have eczema on my scalp and Bronner’s did nothing for it. When I finally was able to use medicated shampoo, it took several months for my skin to come back to a manageable condition.
It’s a soap… it will dry out your hair.. that’s what soap does, It gets oil out. You should definitely use a conditioner with it.
Because this is a very pure soap, it’s also perfect for cleaning menstrual cups (unlike, say, soaps with glycerine or added moisturizer).

Dr. Bronner’s is great except with salt water. I was on South Caicos in the Turks and Caicos Islands for a little over 3 months and it was more trouble than it was worth. It left residue on clothes washed in the ocean and also on your body and lastly everyone’s hair was terrible. I recommend Jason’s for shampoo and body wash (it is also biodegradable)
The unscented/baby mild one is also recommended by piercers and tattoo artists for aftercare 🙂
Most people would not think about it, but using Dr Bronners Eucalyptus soap in a spray bottle also works great as a mosquito deterrent.
