Layering, mixing and matching is our bread and butter at Her Packing List. It’s the way we can pack so little yet still have options.
With that in mind, I wanted to answer a question that actually comes up regularly from HPL readers, and it goes a little bit like this:
“I love dresses and find them to be cool and effortless. Does packing dresses limit my ability to mix and match?”
On the one hand, if you already love dresses and feel most comfortable in them, then putting dresses on your packing lists is a pretty safe bet for packing with simplicity and ease.
But when it comes to packing less and having loads of options, dresses aren’t as versatile as a skirt. You might be able to change the look of some dresses with cardigans and sweaters over the top, or you can invest in something like the Chrysalis Cardi so you can have a dress, cardigan and scarf in one. Those can be really beneficial.
A better recommendation would be to cut back on dresses and go with separates. Those tops you match with your skirts can then also be worn with a pair of jeans or leggings. You get more options over time without needing to pack as much, which is… pretty much our whole shebang.
