This is a post in a new feature on Her Packing List called “The One Little Thing“. Each week, I’ll be interviewing a traveling lady to find out the one little thing she just can’t travel without. This one is brought to you by Candice Walsh who has a special little item to share:
My name is Candice from Candice Does the World. I’m fairly new to the travel scene, and my first time even flying was just four years ago (I’m almost 25).
I studied in England, spent some time hopping around the UK, Mexico, and Atlantic Canada…but my main domain is Newfoundland. I freaking love it here, and I’ve lived here my whole life.
What one little thing can you not travel without?
Gravol. I have this weird thing where travel disasters always happen while I’m on the road, and since the Air France disaster happened, I haven’t been able to get on a plane without being chemically subdued.
Why has this one item been so important to you?
I have the grip of a well-trained wrestler, I take Gravol to prevent crushing the hand of the person unfortunate enough to sit next to me.
How packable is it? Does it take up much room? Is it heavy?
Depends on how many packets you need. I am able to cram a packet into my carry-on, but sometimes I’ll stash an extra in my suitcase. Keep the wrapping, you don’t want any confusion in airport security.
Why would you recommend this to your travel friends?
It’s just such a versatile product! I only wish I had loaded up on Gravol two years ago when I headed to Mexico for the first time and spent my Catamaran tour with my head in the toilet unloading the contents of my stomach. Also useful for hangovers.
Can you name one incident or situation where you were so happy to have this item with you?
On my return trip from Mexico THIS year, my flight was canceled and I had to spend the night wandering around New Jersey without any winter clothing. I didn’t sleep, and my return flight was at 6 a.m…I had to be back at Newark by 4 a.m. I popped two of these babies, boarded my flight, and slept the whole way home with my mouth hanging open and drool rolling down my chin. I NEVER sleep, I’m a legendary insomniac, so this was a big deal. The stewardess couldn’t look me in the eye for the rest of the trip.
How did you hear about this item?
My mother, presumably.
What sort of traveler is this item perfect for?
The one whose nerves slowly unravel every time they step foot on a plane.
